Lab tests show the levels of all 60+ components to be consistently identical to those of NSW. :D

+1 Instant Ocean is an excellent substitute.

BTW, I've found that lab comparisons between artificial salt brands can be inconsistent. This can most likely be attributed to the fact that most major companies are continuously tweaking their formulas in an effort to more closely match NSW with trace and minor elements and improve their quality control, so test results that are more than a few months old may no longer be valid.

Absolutely Mr. B.quality control and batch testing are the only ways to assure consistency. Some companies do it better then others imo. Also as Mr. B states formula's do change from time to time.

    BUMP..

Is Seachem reef salt a good brand? I'm jumping on board and setting up a RO/DI unit next week and this is what the LFS close to me sells.

I'm getting ready to switch over to the esv brand salt mix as I've heard nothing but very positive reviews about it

JMO, but I don't believe it matters much unless you're housing stony corals and rely heavily on dosing to maintain cal, mag, and alk. That's when you would need 100% consistency to prevent parameter swings and the need to recalculate and adjust your dosing schedule.

This is what I heard too. I plan on at least keeping up with the same brand salt mix. My tank is mostly FOWLR, I do have some random rock nems, palys, & GSP in there.

IMO, consistency matters in a fowler just as much as a reef. Granted you don't need high levels of of the big three like a reef but I would think changing salts all the time would promote some chemistry imbalance.
