i had my daughters 6th birthday party last saturday and alot of people were looking at my tank during the party.
the funniest thing is they notice the things that arent really a big deal to most of us. like my xenia, sally lightfoot crab and serpent star were the big talk lol meanwhile i have alot of more expensive corals and beautiful fish swimming around and no one seems to notice these haha
funniest thing is my aunt was asking how the filter and everything works so i showed her under my tank, which she was disgusted when she saw my dirty fuge and half full skimmer cup. she stopped asking questions after that;D;D;D

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
In reality it seems a huge majority of people do not really know what a coral is or even recognize it. What they know about the marine environment is what they garnered from Finding Nemo. I have had visitors see the clown fish and then ask me if it's a sw tank!

Been with the BF 7 years and he still can not tell the difference between a rock and an Acropora. Which works because he thinks I am just adding rocks to the tank.

What is even better when people not only find out that you have coral in your tank, but that the coral has a mouth (or mouths) and eats food!

oh how i wish thats how things worked at my house.
my girlfriend notices everything. even during the party saturday she was naming off things in my tank to people. which shows me either i talk to much about my tank or she has a very good memory.

We often have get togethers at my house.

Pretty much the same story as those posted.
They usually point out the Nemo characters in my tank as well.
They often ask if it's SW.

I usually try to start off talking about my corals. I have a few large colorful colonies and they seem to like them as well. Trhey ask about my nems, etc.

About a week ago, we had some people over and we were alll standing looking at my DT, and my wife, who takes little to no interest- even stated she thought the exciting things to watch in the tank- were my corals! I was sort of shocked

I have my wife completely brainwashed and now mesmerized. She doesnt want to know the chemistry or the reasons why I do what I do, but she definitely enjoys it and brags about how awesome it is.

It is funny to see how different people react to it. Some people dont ask anything and then another wants to know how bio pellets work. Except they just ask "what are those tumbling things in there?" Then I explain a little and more times than not they just respond with, "wow, okay....."

I find it hilarious when people ask what they think is a simple, innocent question and they then quickly realize they've opened pandora's box when I start giving a lecture on the scientific name, care requirements, unique behaviors, etc of my tank inhabitants lol

I love my filefish to deal because if its strange appearance, cool personality, and dietary habits.. However, visitors like my goby more, because it's "cute".

Same happened when I had my 29 gallon set up. So many people pointing out my "Nemo"'s. And when I tried to explain anything about something in the tank, whether it's a coral, fish, snail, or anemone people usually try to change the conversation. I guess I just talk too much about it :D
