Trent, I've never heard that and I have seen them in tanks staying green spanning over years. Have not seen a blue one yet.

i have heard that some places take the white ones and do, color them like you said, but one they are almost never respectible lfs and two they are very sketchy about them,
but the real ones are truley that color, red, green, blue. etc.

This is an unfortunate event by some idiots trying to make a buck at the expense of a delicate and beautiful anemone. The carpets(stichodactyla) and the Sebae(Heteractis Malu, Crispa and Sebae) are the two anemone species by choice that have been assessed this dye, which looks nice for a while but doesn't last, nor does the anemone!!!!!
Pink and yellow are the most commonly found dyed anemones!
It is easier to detect a dye job on the heteractis sp. since the tips of those anemones are often a different color than that of their oral disc, base and bottom part of their tentacles, though the people that dye them dye them just one color.
It is truly a shame that the dying of a tetra could be transferred to that of delicate anemone species, with one major drawback, yes the dye eventually wears off, but the anemone 9 times out of 10 DIES!

This is very true, I had bought one many yrs ago and didnt know why it died very quickly. Later after some research, I found out that their dyed to make it seem these anemones are rare and very hard to come by. So they jack up the prices and take advantage of uneducated reefers. Shameless I tell you. Luna

As mentioned earlier, there is normally at least two different color tones to host anemones. Individuals that have been dyed have a more uniform color to them. It's hard to describe, but if you look deep below the tissue there should be a brownish or tanish color. This is my green carpet. I have had it for several years. It is not dyed. You can see that the tentacles are green, but the oral disk is a darker color.
