    Hey guys,
I have a 2year old 15gallon nano and the nitrates have never gone below 60. i have just 1 fish and a few softies. but there has never been any deaths due to this xcept for algae blooms. even after changing 100% water in a week and no feeding, the nitrates come back to 60. i would like to build a coil denitrater. any ideas on design as its nano?

I'd like to say first that you should try to find the cause. Apparently you have a "dirty" rock, or detritus built up between the rocks or in the substrate. Do you clean the rockwork with a turkey baster and vacuum the sand during water changes?

If all else fails and you really want to go with a denitrator, here's one plan...

Here is the pic of tubing that is available here. its transperent. will it work? i would like to know the lenght 50' or 75' or more and also the length of PVC. i will be using 3-4" diameter pvc.

Size of tank will not make a difference on length required. Tubing diameter could be scaled down on a nano tank. You should read up on it more.

It seems to me the more tubing you use (the taller the pvc) the quicker you could rid the coils of oxygen, thus making the cycle of the denitrator "faster". I could be totally way off though. ;) This seems like a really good job for that spare canister filter to do. I would say 50 foot could make two coils in a 12" tall piece or pvc. An estimated guess though.

I've been doing some reading as well... length of tubing >> height of column. I'm debating trying to make one that'll fit in the first chamber of my Biocube (29) so I don't have to worry about chaeto... though it would be nice for it to pull out other stuff from the water.

well here is my plan. 4" PVC 15" tall. tubing 50-75' what ever fits, normal airline tubing valve during intake and outlet, an aqualifter prefilter canister and a 150-200 LPH pump. drip will be 1 drop per 2-2.5 secs. then will increase to 1 drop per 1.5 sec. what say? i dont have a sump but there is place behind the tank. iv never read people dosing carbon, so confused about it.
