BTW, That is a beautiful fish up top here....but I suspect it to be a color variant, not a hybrid.
I agree with you BL. About the "way nature intended".

No shoes. Here's a good pat on your back.

Initially yes. But then I did see one like that before. Rarely but they exist.
Why is cross breeding of fish that don't breed in nature considered "coming a long way"?

I used to breed parrots...and I never thought it was a good idea to cross breed species. Of course, breeding for color variants is a different aspect.  Same species, just playing on a recessive color or shape, or whatever.......

To conserve gene pools of species, cross breeding needs to be discouraged!  Regardless of how beautiful the outcome may be.  Quite often, the offspring are 'mules' (sterile)  That says to me "not how nature intended"
I in no way said that crossbreeding was benificial, desirable, or good for evolution or the countiuation of a "natural gene pool". You have read too deeply (perhaps to lightly) by saying that...as i said FERTILE, if you can make fertile offspring through hybrids, then by all means have at it. We've come along way from coral skeletons and less than one year life spans! As long as the original species is being bred purley and the wild ones are not going on the endangered species list somewhere then its not doing the family of Amphiprion any harm....and nor could it do so regaurdless of how out of whack crossbreeding gets unless the crossbreeds a re-introduced to the ocean and out compete the natives (unlikeley). Many clown fish are so closley related (sometimes flirting with taxonomical classification) that they are suspected of inter-breeding even in the wild. I know nothing of parrots (except they are incredibly entertaining), i have bred chameleons, tarantulas, had giant centipedes spawn with sucessfull clutches (Scolopendra ssp.....) as well as many species of lizards, but most importantly clownfish of the ocellaris and percula species. Im not here to argue about the morality of breding marine fish....but i will defend my statement into the ground as it was valid...i see how a quick skimming over it may have sparked a thought or two in the contrary. Not mad....only defensive with a touch of sleep depravation... ;)
