i bought bta and when i brought it home it was extended well. but my maroon clown took too it right off and it doesnt extend out like it did before. . . my clown wont leave it for a second not even to eat. i have to drop his food right next to him to get him to eat. should i move one of them to another tank or just give it time and see what happens?

My maroon went through that phase also. The bonding period lasted until he got really hungry, then he ventured out a little. Then a little more. Now, he will travel far from his home, fetch the food, bring it back to the anenome and spit it out. What a trip. IMO your clown is just getting to know the BTA.

Mine will actually nip at my hand and arm if I need to get into the tank and come to close. God forbid if I have to move the rock the anenome is attached to. Yesterday he got my thumb knuckle pretty good, I actually felt it.

    Rock on.......John

This can last from a few days to a few weeks (Don't expect to see any prolonged distance between the anemone and clown ever though). Right now your female is glad to have a home to host. She's 'getting to know' her new brood spot. This is very normal for clown fish and anemones so don't worry about it. When it comes to reef tanks this is about as natural as you can get.

It's still going on and they've been together for 45 days give or take. He's in love.

if it was me i would put the clown in to a refugium or another tank for a week or two so the anemone can adjust to the new tank. because i had lost my bta like that my maroon rubbed it so much it couldnt open. big clown +very small bta= basically rape .

+1 The anemone needs to adjust to your tank before it's stressed out even more by having a fish rub against it constantly.

Hmm I would not be too worried. Over the few years I have had my clowns and BTA it has split...hmm many times. The clowns now have at least 4 summer homes around the tank, as well a one or two hide away cabins in the rockwork hah.

I think that moving either of them might just cause more problems than good. Unless the anemone starts looking really bad I would just keep a good eye on it.

When do we get some pics!!?
