So I have had my tank up for about 4-5 months now, and haven't had any problems with diseases, yet. I have two Oscillaris, one cardinal, a chromis and a damsel. I did just add (yesterday) a porcelain crab, few new hermits, a curly q anemone, and a few new snails (on top of my existing cleaning crew). I have a lot of nice live rock covered with coralline and god know's what else. Okay.. so if I need any other details I will post as people ask them.

Here is the issue. Last night I went to bed, fish were fine that I saw. This morning, turn moon light off and 50/50 on and one of my clown fish has a red spot like right next to his jaw. Its clearly not on his gill, but I am worried as to what this is. I can't seem to find pictures or descriptions of anything red that isn't at the gills. I want to know what this is A.S.A.P so I can try to treat it. If anyone can help that would be awesome. The spot is a little bigger than a pin head ( or roughly the same size), it is a little raised off the surface, and it is definitely a bright pink/red color. There are no other spots or blemishes, yet (knocks on wood).

Thanks all! This forum rocks btw!

Its probably a busted blood vessle, monitor him and see if anything changes. He probably did a little sparring with someone....it happens.

    okay...

So here is an update, that made me feel a lot better that two people said it should be okay. However, now they have spread from his cheek to also being on his fin on that same side. Its not right at the base of his fin/body and cheek. I have been told it could be red sores and to QT him and treat him with Erythrmyecin? I think its called, I have some now and am treating the tank because I cant catch him and dont want to kill him with stress. Please let me know if you guys think its still just burst blood vessels, etc.

More than one would seem out of the ordinary to me. My first thought was a scratch or a nip from another fish BUT now that you have observed another just like it, it is probably some sort of infection. Is he eating?

    update

Thank you for the continuing support. He is eating, quite well actually. It doesn't seem to be affecting his swimming much yet, but at the rate of this spreading (1 day = 1 sore, 2 days = 2) it really is worrying me. I am treating for bacterial infections, I just hope it works. I will let everyone know if it gets any worse, and I will try to get a clear pic of his red sores to post. Thanks!

Is that treatment reef safe. If not there's a possibility it could kill off all your nice live rock along with the bacteria that serves as your bio filter. Usually when it comes time to QT a fish it means its time to remove a lot of rock to catch the fish. I cant catch a single fish from my tank without a long process of removing almost everything.

Since it is difficult to diagnose a fish disease or injury without seeing it, may I direct you to an article written by Bob Fenner as a starting point to identifying your clownfish's problem. He has several symptoms and pictures to help you diagnose your fish's problem. I wish you well in with your clown.
