My husband has already placed his wants even before I start cycling and he wants a clownfish BAD. Is there a clownfish for beginners?
    What does it eat?
Does it need to be paired?
How old does the system have to be before it can be introduced?

If not it gives me more power to tell him to bugger off :p

I've read around but I figure this place can lead me in the right direction.

    Thanks!!!

Once your tank fully cycles, ie the AM & NI levels read 0 & the PH should stay steady in teh 7.8-8.2 range, you can add a fish.

Best to get a pair of tank-raised Ocellaris Clowns, they are hardy and great fish. Find two that are already together in a tank. I feed mine a variety of food including frozen mysis & brine shrimp, a tiny bit of Omega flakes, occasionally some raw shrimp in small pieces.

I wonder if he is more excited than I am? LOL

+1 to above posts. I bought a pair of o. clowns a month after setting up the tank. They did great! A couple tankmates got ick but there wasn't one spot on the clowns. I'm not sure if they were tank raised but I have a strong feeling they were because they will eat food right out of my hand. Pretty cool. Good luck!

P.S. It won't take long for both of you to become very excited. My wife was bored while the tank was cycling but 2 days after the fish started going in she was hooked. Now I get to buy all the corals I want. Too bad I don't have more money, lol.

How big is the tank? I would go with ocellaris clowns as well and if you're feeling really adventurous you could go with one orange and one black ocellaris for a pair.

Just make sure you get two of the smallest ones you can find. Clowns have the ability to change sex and if you get two large ones they may fight.8)

I thought it was a small and a large so there isn't a fight on who becomes the dominant (the small stays submissive to the larger)?

You don't need 2 though. People just tend to prefer it.

Yeah, that's generally the case. However, when they are both small and juveniles they are still undecided about what sex they are going to be. As they grow, they work things out as to which one will be male and which one will be female. You can either purchase two young juveniles and have them pair as they grow or purchase a larger female and then get a small juvenile. Either way will hopefully result in a pair.
