    Hey Guys and Girls,

Yesterday I put my substrate into the my new 55g tank, which is a fine argonite substrate and then filled it with water. Because it was to fine, I didnt think I would be able to wrinse it properly, so I didnt. When I filled the tank with water obviously this was the wrong idea as it went basically like milk.

I then removed all the water and the substrate and cleaned it properly using my fish net. I have added it back in and added water again and it is still really cloudy.

I have noticed some sediment forming on my power heads, so im thinking its just the really fine sediment from the substrate forming this?

Is there anything I can do to make my water clear? I have added my salt to 1.025 and added some live rock to start my cycle.

    Thanks heaps in advance. ;D

    Ryan.

How long has it been? Turning on your powerheads should help, but it'll still take a while. Though, if the sand is too fine, then you may run into the problem that your powerheads stir up the sand constantly... In that case you would need different sand to either replace it, or to layer on top...

Its been in there for about 18 hours or so now. I hope that it clears otherwise I just wasted a tonne of money on salt and substrate.

Here are some pics so you can see what the substrate is like and how clowdy it is.

Make sure your powerheads are not pointed at the substrate, turn on all your normal filtration and let it run for 2 or 3 days. It will settle down, if you can see through it enough to set your aquascaping in place now go for it so you dont need to disturb it again after it settles.
    Good luck

When I first added sand, it took 3 days before my tank was clear, and another couple weeks before there wasn't a sandstorm every time I moved a rock. No worries.

I had the same problem, just let the tank run and it will settle. It will get stirred up during cleaning and maintenance, but it is just a nuisance. It doesn't hurt the fish

it took mine awhile. i also have very little filtration, just a sump with a little filter floss and a protein skimmer. mine went away within 5 days.

btw, i love the look of your tank. that rimless is really sharp!
