A little hydrogen peroxide also works well.

So I soaked them for 24 hours in bleach water (.5-1 cup bleach in about 1 gallon of water) then rinsed them really well in the sink and soaked them for a while in tap water. After I sat them out and they dried I picked them up and smelled them and could still smell bleach. Is that normal and am I go to put them back in use?
Also the really thick (wool/felt) ones turned the tap water they soaked in a orangeish color. I tried rinsing them and soaking them more and they still did the second soaking too, but not as bad. Anyone have that happen?

I use a mesh sock filter sock that I clean out every week with my weekly tank maintenance.

I take it out the back hose it out thoroughly, give it a little soak in RO with some conditioner and put it back in.

+1 I throw mine in the washer on a normal cycle with no soap, obviously. Good for at least 3 times. Does put wear and tear on the socks.

Washing machine with 1/2 cup bleach on white. let air dry. use with a second set. the easiest way and yes once its dry no possibility of chlorine leakage. it is a gaseous element. will evaporate.

FYI I hold a degree in chemistry :)
