after recently purchasing a acrylic tank i have been trying to learn all i can to keep it looking great. i recently read someone uses a old credit card to clean the hard to remove algae on the glass. well after going to the store to purchase a acrylic scraper i noticed how hard the plastic was and how the edges came to a sharp edge. and thought i think the credit card idea is better the sides are rounded the plastic is softer. i tried it it worked great!!!! i was able to remove the hard deposits that were at the sand line in one pass. and without worry's of picking up sand and scratching the tank.

any other great ideas to share??

I agree with the credit card but corners are going to be a pita though with the rounded edges.

Not letting algae build up is the easiest way to keep your tank looking good. That way you wont have to scrub on it. A quick wipe every other day helps alot. One of the algae pads for acrylic tanks work well, dont use a mag-float, guarenteed to scratch eventually. Always flip the cleaning pad, and dont get too close to the sand with it. I have had my acrylic tank for 12 years and it still looks great, there are a few scratches, not big ones, but it happens. I also moved 8 times in 3 years and got a few from that.

i clean my tank often but i always seem to get those small spots on the acrylic . i do have a mag-float but i have felt on both sides of it. i think the mag float is to ruff/scratchy feeling with out felt on it. plus the fish store i go to also warned me to be careful with it on acrylic (even the mag float made for acrylic) and showed me a acrylic tank they used the mag float on that was all scratched up, after talking to them i learned they now use felt on their mag float, i found this out after i had already used the felt. its actually pieces of a felt like glove that is made for acrylic, that i cut apart, its very soft feeling.
