hi peeps new to this world

i have just set up a river reef 48 all the filteration system is in the back of the tank. it starts with plastic balls then onto a big black sponge.
the next chamber over is a thin sponge with phosphate remover, activated charcoal then ceramic rings and a small ammount of live rock bits i had left over.

my question is do i squeeze and clean out the sponges every clean or will i be messing with the bio features the tank is building up at the mo
    thanks

What I do know is that you dont want to do them all at the same time. You have important bacteria in them. You are supposed to stagger them when you change them out. I always tried to save the pods that live in them before I would rinse them.
