    Hi guys,

I have a LOT of algae. Levels are good, except nitrates are in 10-15 range. Going down everyday though! Just wondering, what's a good, peaceful, interesting clean up crew. Whatever I will get will only be after nitrates are in 5-10 range, is that low enough?

    Thanks!

5-10 is plenty fine for nitrates.

for a clean up crew I (and probably the next 5 posts) will recommend hitting reefcleaners. John will get you hooked up.

What am I to say. Never heard of ReefCleaners.org. But I am checking it out now. I would have just suggested hermits, snails, and shrimp.

Hermits eat well an keep algee at bay pretty good, but poop like mad. Hermits shed and leave nasty looking carcasses, you need extra shells, few things bother hermits. A select few have target foods for speciality problems.

Snails clean here and there but not everywhere. Lots of things attack snails, some grow fast and then they start bumping frags all over the place. I bought 5 bumble bee snails 3 years ago for one of my tanks. In july of last year I removed over 50 of them, and treated the tank with copper to kill all snails remaining but unseen.

Shrimp very dedicated, but each species has its own speciality target foods. When they shed they can be eaten by just about any reef safe fish. Shrimp sheds break down fast and often times the shrimp will eat some if not all of it to regain iodine. Most are smart enough to find a safe place but thats not the case as often as you would think.
