Chillers

Hey everyone. I am going to need to buy chillers for my tanks this spring. Does anyone know of a good quality reasonable priced chiller? I know I have been all over ebay and the websites looking but cant meke up my mind. Doesnt Gresham work on tanks for a living? Mabey someone has tryed multiple brands and can help me with my choice. I have 2 55 gallons that are side by side and would like to run the same chiller for both if they make one for that. Oh yea I am sumpless and will need to plum the chiller with hoses and a pump.

Tell me your best brands for quality and reliability and price.

Good questions! I started a thread about a week ago asking basically the same things. Got no response though. Would really appreciate any chiller input folks have. What are you using? Would you buy same product again? That sort of thing. Personally I am looking at JBJ Artica and Pacific Coast Industries. The JBJ has a 2 year warranty. PCI seems to be less expensive. Hopefully folks will chime in. ;D
Chiller forum? Good idea! Or possibly an equipment forum where all mechanicals could be discussed.

I have run for some time with out a chiller , multiple summers. Yes I have run into heat issues, but I would do anything to avoid getting a chiller. From what I have heard they are noisy and not energy wise at all.
I enquired about one last year at about this time and even my LFS advised against it. Unless you can put it some where that the noise won't bother you.

As you can see below I have a similar set up Jay. and what I have done is to add a fan blowing directly into my sump angled at the water and then when it gets really warm I add a second fan blowing on the surface of the water. This keeps the tank steady at 79F even when the room temp is 90F

Ok ....mabey I can keep it down to a managable level. I also dont want to be caught with water at 85 without any way to keep it cool. I live in a desert climate and have no airconditioning. It will reach 90 in my livingroom this summer. I have a family room with a window airconditioner that I stay in when its like that for weeks at a time. It can get 110 outside here. When its like that I keep the livingroom and backdoors wide open with big fans running all night. I have screen doors with deadbolt locks and metal bars to keep the criminals out.
Even with fans running it will get 95 in the room with my tanks.

What does everyone else think?

I Think You'll Need A Chiller!

Hello Jay, I think you'll need a chiller! I also live in a country that has very high temp (Jamaica) All I can say for me is that i've not had much luck with the Current USA Prime 1/15hp and 1/10hp chillers. For some reason they seem to stop cooling after about a year of use. I've heard some good reviews about the JBJ Chillers so I may choose to invest in this product, however I've decided to do more in depth research and read more consumer reviews before jumping in as I should have done instead of going with the Current USA Prime Chillers. :-/
