    hi guys

i just got my chiller today and i have set the temp to 25 celsius ( 77 fahrenheit )
however, i found out that the chiller only starts chilling after the temp fluctuates to 27 c. ( a 2 degree difference ). it would start chilling it to 25 celsius and stuff. and the cycle repeats again. would this temp fluctuation harm my tank? my room temp is 28.5 c. :)

I have owned a chiller like that "Rishen" model - I set mine for 26 and it would chill down to 26 and allow the water to warm up to 28 then come on again and cool it down

IME the increase was not very sudden and I dont recall having any issues resulting from this potential 2 degree variation

Im using a Hai Lea model ,which is in degrees C but measures in 0.1 and thus goes off at 25.9 degrees C and comes on when temp reaches 77 - so its tolerance is 1.1 degree C

Im obviously happier with this model than I was with older one, but the Rishen model as stated at 2 C tolerance did not seem to me a major issue (didnt get constant outbreaks of desease/ parasites etc)

okay i think i'll just have to get an external thermostat;D

btw steve, what happened to your old chiller? i think i'm using that one now. it's called resun here though. mine's 1/13 hp. still deciding whether to go 25 to 27, or 26 to 28. the temp calibration for the chiller is actually 0.4 less than real temp. so if i set 26 to 28. it's actually 25.6 to 27.6. is that temp range ok for reef?

I would not imagine that a 2 degree swing will harm any coral or fish. I run a Pacific coast Chiller and have it running through a Profilux controller. I allow a 3 degree swing before the chiller comes on. This ensures it is not cycling on and off to quickly and burning out

Resun - yes thats probably the same model - I got rid of it as it was to small for my tank - It was a rated to 200 litres, and my new one is rated to 300 litres - so its more efficient in this climate
Id say that temp range is fine for most species

failed in my attempt to multi quote - but Jasons comments on temp fluctuation of the 2 degrees , should reassure you that your chiller is fine with the 2 degree fluctuation

never tried to be honest - it was to small in this climate I got it in September when it was hardly on , and then during March the year after it never went off - it seemed

so I upgraded to a bigger model
but it was not the 2 degree swing, just the fact Hai Lea units where recomended to me ( produced by same factory that OEM for Aquamedic)
