    Hey reefers,

Should the chiller be placed outside my cabinet or can it go inside, It only just fits inside the cabinet as i have a sump in there aswell, How much ventilation do they need around them to work properly. It's a hailea chiller.

They need good ventilation and I wouldn't put it in a cabinet. They also generate quite a bit of heat and it will heat your sump making cooling much more difficult.

familiar with the Halea brand myself - they do need a lot of ventilation, they do get very warm to the touch the heat they give off works against you as if its not adequately ventilated its heat cannot escape and it has to work harder to cool your water

I have mine outside of the cabinet and a good 2ft away to the side - it was previously only about 12 inches from the cabinet - but the wood work was getting to warm, so I moved it further away (That shows you how warm they can get)

A chiller really should go outside or at the very least into another room as far from the water as possible , Chillers do not give of heat ): that heat is from the heat molecules that the refrigerant gas has captured on its pass through the evaporator coil , And as the heat is released through the condenser coils it is simply returning to the space that contains less heat molecules the water , Its a big old circle and the compressor pays the physical cost and you pay the energy cost. Why put a window A/C in a window ? or the condenser portion of a central A/C system outside the house ?

Mine are in a cabinet next to my tank, and I have the front grill "poking through" so they get "clean air" and the back of the cabinet is open.

With the tank on an outside wall of the house, the chiller sits outside of the house with the power and plumbing running through the wall...kind-of-like a central AC unit would for your house...

Thanks for the answers guys im defantly putting it outside the cabinet now, Was hummimg and harring so im glad i ask the question as there is no room for ventilation and will be sitting to close to sump, making it almost pointless having a chiller, cheers reefers.:)
