My tank been up and runing for a few months now and everything is going well. I added some Phosphate removal from PURA. Just 2 table spoons in a media bag seems to work. I was looking at using PURA Nitrate removal also. Has anyone used the Nitrate remover with any success? Are there any Pros and Conns to using both the Phos lock and Nitrate remover?

seriously there is nothing wrong with using most absorption medias, but if you really want the bang for your buck, get a phos reactor 150 $39.00 and some rowaphos that will keep you po4 and algae free for months, with out the risk of it all leaching back in to the tank when its full. you could even run 2 of them one with nitrate media and other with p04 media. but this is IMHO the best way to use any of the chemical medias, including carbon. and you only need a lil 10$ minjet 606 to power one.

putting some of the crap stuff in a bag and throwing it in the sump cant do much, as water will flow around it and not threw it,

unless your using a canister filter, sry i assumed you were running a sump!

if you are not running any kinda under the tank filter you can hang the reactor on the back of tank its pretty small.

ive only used rowa phos and i can say it is a gift from god( well actully it was from tangster lol) this stuff worked so well on my gha and bryopsis that i dont care to ever test any other media. yes bryopsis i was days from tearing my tank down befor tangster told me to try rowaphos. two lil fishes brand dont cut it for me.

Well put Blue. I have an in tank sump and I only use Poly Bio pads and live rock in my sump. No2 and No3 or pretty good but I wanna see 0's across the board.. I think my tank still needs time,, I was miss guided on how to do water changes and never gor the tank to cycle right but now it's well on it's way and should be done.

I have a dicent RO system and just ordered an DI unit to add in. Seems that everything in the tank is very happy and looking great. Ill check into the reactor and see if it will work on my system..

yeah if your tank is still new nothing to worry about.

if you look at your lfs holding tanks , at least the sps tanks most likely they will be running reactors on them, its a easy was to keep your p04 at zero, rowaphos also removes silicates that are food for diatoms.

and your on the right track getting the ro/di , i dont even have my own yet:(, im sure they go a long way to keeping your tank prestine.

and if your tank is new youll see alot of things come and go such as algae of diff sorts. so keeping your po4 low will go a long way in keeping the algae blooms to a minimal, or not at all.

phoneix makes a point about nitrate remover, i do use a kent nitrate media, but i honestly have no clue if it works at all, since i have over 100 lbs lr, and a refuge with macro,

there are lot of methods to remove nitrate, maybe first look into something more natural, as it will usually help you in more ways than one.
