i was just looking around my tank and i just noticed i have two of my ceriths on the inside of my vortech. If they loose their grip and get caught in the propeller, what dammage could they do? i dont think i will be able to get them out. I just worry about the possibility of their shells being broken into bits and pieces and damaging something

When I had my 30 I had some snails get in my koralias. Some actually made it out no issues. Others learned quickly and got tossed out of there. I don't think they will cause an issue, they will either get thrown out or make it out by themselves. Unless they really get wedged between the prop and guard and stop the prop, I doubt it will be an issue.

My snails are always getting into my MP20. When I first got it, I was fishing them out twice a day to protect my propeller. After a few months of them getting shot across the tank, there is no obvious wear on my pump propeller, so I don't worry about it anymore.

I went to the beach a couple weeks ago and when I returned my main magdrive that pumps the water from my sump to my tank was at a dead stop and was so hot that the water in my sump was about 90 degrees. The culprit....a single snail that made its way from my display tank all the way through my sump baffles and into the pump. PITA.... only solution I think is a filterbag

I don't think it's worth worrying about snails in Vortechs. I don't think they can cause a lot of damage even if they get stuck for a bit. I wouldn't be as worried about their shell getting broken up as them getting wedged into the propeller and stopping it and maybe burning out the motor. But I really don't think it's that big of an issue since usually you can find them before the motor has been burning up for a long period of time

I have them go into my powerheads also and they have been getting shot across the tank as mentioned. I cleaned my injector on my skimmer yesterday and pulled 3 of them out so they made it through the filteration into the sump through the large pump and into the skimmer. They do what they do constantally move. I have had my clean up crew for well over a year and am constantally picking them out of something.

I'm running an MP40 which came with a sponge cover. Shouldn't the sponge keep the snails out?
