Coldshot - "I set mine on carpet and had level problems at first so I had to shoulder the whole tank and slide hard back book covers under the front to make it level. If it is his carpet he could cut it or do like the other user said like building a steady platform. Mine is on the carpet and is level and has been for a year and a half with no more problems. Good Luck....

I have my 29g on carpet. Just make sure it is a level floor. I've also dripped saltwater on my carpet by accident several times::). No stain left behind.

i have a 29 gallon on my carpet,i went to home depot and bought a box of ceramic tile, and put that down for a base. i had the stand just setting on the carpet before and was a little off level.since i moved the tank and put tiles down its dead level,i also left like a 10 inch lip stickin out so no water hits carpet.JOE

    Good question Bama

carpets require steady parameters and adequate light
make your friend aware that they can and do eat fish

also make your friend aware that , if he places a very large tank of water on the carpet, lifting said carpet will be difficult for future so should a new carpet be purchased before they have grown tired of that tank they may have to cut around it anyway or strip the tank down

so IMO cutting out the shape in the carpet is a good idea , but make sure he understands down grading in tank size in the future will also require the purchase of a new carpet

and thats all I have to say about that
