This question is not for me, but for a friend who is buying my tank and I am helping him set it up. His place does not really have a place to put a tank without it being on the carpet. I was thinking(and he is fine with this) of cutting out the exact shape of the carpet with a box cutter to expose the hard floor below the tank and setting the stand on that. It would be cut to the dimensions and with the use of carpet nail strips to hold the cut carpet down around the tank. Do you think this will work? I see no problem with it. Please fill me in with your knowledge.. Thanks people, K+ for answers.. :)

You could do that...if its his carpet and he wont get into any trouble with a landlord/wife or anything.

I actually have my tank on a carpet floor in my family room....I have no problems at all with it!

The other option is to build it up if he doesnt want it on the carpet. then just install some base trim around the box/platform!

i dont see why it would be a problem, at least the surface would be level. Just try not to get any water under the carpet and pad that will be exposed.

I set mine on carpet and had level problems at first so I had to shoulder the whole tank and slide hard back book covers under the front to make it level. If it is his carpet he could cut it or do like the other user said like building a steady platform. Mine is on the carpet and is level and has been for a year and a half with no more problems. Good Luck....

I have both my tanks on the carpet and they are level and I have no problems. When I'm doing maintenance, or other things where I'll spill water, I just lay down a bunch of rags. It's not problem!

Another idea is to buy one of those thick plastic pads they sell to put under an office chair, so that it rolls easily over carpet.

I placed large tile squares under my tank, this allowed me to level the tank. I just used the same tiles we use in our Kitchin so it does not look out of place (they only stick out about 2" around the tank. It does help prevent water from running on the carpet (gives me a little time to wipe up spills).

always have tanks on carpet for many years. my reef tank is only like 1/8" off level.. not a big deal..

when I do water changes, I always put a bathroom towel down, laying accross the front of the tank.. any water that spills falls on the towel, and not the carpet.
