No BS straight Bline for the carpet- I had no time to react- cept trying to pry him out of the kung fu grip that the 20 inch carpet has. He is all stand up stout right now- HUGE in size- I think he is surely 24" in diameter. (after his expensive meal I provided)

These critters are stout- no doubt about it. It simply shocked me how fast it happened. It was like the anemone knew there was a new fish and drew it in somehow. ESP or something weird to say the least.

As for video, man If I had that footage I would be one of three things, a crewl bastard, a knob dumb ass, or a hero.

I think knob dumb ass fits best right now- I knew better, but I got over confident. 12 years in the same tank will do that to ya.

Naw you could have taken numerous precautions but a fishes reaction once released is unpredictable. I figured it headed straight down once released.

A vid, along with the story, would have been funny, interesting, sad and a lesson. I wouldn't have done anything different then you did. In fact I would have done exactly the same thing. You even acclimated it longer then I would have. A 12 yr old tank is impressive in itself.

*Reread the original post and noticed it was a 20 incher carpet....that wrasse had no chance once it was in the grasp of that large a carpet but just to make things worse he figures he would grab a shrimp on his way out... in a different tank. Crazy!

You aren't to blame. That stuff is just going to happen.
