Thanks for the advice, but I don't think that was or is an issue, I think the fish I had was most likely tank rasied and knew no better- but who knows. I have 5 tangs in the same tank and several other fish that know better. Perhaps it was "truck lag" from the trip home. I mean after all the Soldier fish I also added had no problems, but I guess I will never know.

I didn't even think of taking pic's I should have- oh well.

    Thanks

I think what he's saying is that anemones catch fish in the wild, and the only fish really suited to being around them are clownfish and some damsels. It really doesn't matter if they were tank raised or not; an anemone might catch a wild caught fish like a tang just as easily as a tank bred wrasse.

Yes I understnd that BR, but I have never in 12 years seen such a thing, it was... disturbing in a way. Mind you most fish in the wild avoid anemone's too. I never knew how fast a carpet anemone actually is- until I saw it. BTW, this fish came from a tank full of RBT's just not carpets- the LFS said the wrasse should be fine, as well I thought so too. I mean after all the Soldier fish didn't commit harry carrie right out of the gate.

It just bothers me a little is all.

anemones are predators and as you have seen they eat fish. Any fish stupid enough to swim into it are lunch, atleast with the carpets. and its true alot of fish are smart enough to avoid that. Just saying its the risk you take with them.

I was also talking about the wrasse eating the small shrimp too.

yea, I agree with what you are saying, but man if you seen how fast it happened, it makes me wonder- all this time no issues, and suddenly POW.

And BTW, this Carpet was not ever w/o regular feedings.

Maybe it's time to relocate the Clarkee and his fish eating Carpet friend.

Perhaps my confidence in my 12 years of sucess has come back to bite me in the proverbial arse.

BTW, I have probly 50 of those little guys in that tank- they breed like crazy- up until now they had no one that would eat them.

I have seen a tomato clown swim right into a carpet anemone after being released from the shipping bag. Swam straight in and suffered the consequences just as any other fish would. Point is, not even anemonefish are safe with anemones. They aren't "automatically" immune to the nematocyst's sting...

missionsix- yep, exactly my point in my posting, sometimes you think you know your tank- then suddenly mother nature steps in and slaps ya down.

I will admitt, my confindence got the better of me.

A mistake that cost me a very pretty fish.

So, true. If you think about it, how would an anemone survive in the wild if all fish knew to stay away.... Unfortunately carpets, as beautiful as they are, pack a serious punch. Sorry to hear about the wrasse.

Did the wrasse just B-line it straight into the carpet? You know how some fish, when introduced, bolt in no particular direction. The wrasse know to avoid it at all costs.

I know the stings of a large (not sure if yours is large) carpet. I hated getting a shipment in every week and having to handle them in the display tanks.

Sucks you lost the fish but I am glad to hear it ended up in the carpet. The way you wrote that post made me LOL but it I feel your pain. Lesson learned I guess (what lesson? The wrasse should have known.. tank bred or not). Grab your camera next time! A vid of that would have gone viral in the reefing world;)
