There was a horrible storm last night and I guess the power shut off and back on, so I woke up this morning and my canister filter will not turn on!! I've primed and unplugged and primed and unplugged....and nothing! I didn't have a chance to take it apart I was already late for work lol any ideas?!

Sounds like you need to take it apart. I am guessing the impeller is frozen with calcium build up.

A spare filter would be a good idea in this case and increasing your cleaning regimen on the filter.

Does it sound like its getting power? Like is the pump running and its just not sucking anything or is it dead silence? If its dead it might have received a surge during the outage or power up that killed it.

Don't be so sure, the same thing can happen to a return pump.

If its mechanical it can break.
