Canister filters

my parents just bought a marinelife c-360 canister filiter any1 exp with this model? and with a hob skimmer(octopus 1000s) would be enough 2 filter a 46gal...?

 

Fish only? FO

Fish only with live rock? FOWLR

or Reef?


For my 55 gallon reef, I only use a HOB Octopus skimmer and 2lb per gallon of Live Rock. I don't like canister filters and feel they are more trouble than they are worth.

That's just me though, a few folks like them...

 

i have bout 45-50lbs on liverock in there...(i had to nuke the tank they screwed it up..) so i got my 2 clowns and my 2 pjs in my 15gal qt tank for now...im just gonna recycle the whole tank...its gonna be a reef tank btw

 

It could work. I have had my tank for about 15 months with a HOB skimmer and a canister. You must be religious about changing any media in the filter. Change any floss every one to two weeks depending on your feeding habits. Change any other media monthly. Clean the complete unit monthly including hoses to keep from creating nitrate factories.

 

so besides shuttin it off and primer the water thru the hose is there an easier way to get the water out and clean this thing?

 

I don't know anything about that filter, but most likely.

 

well how do u clean out ur canister

 

I rinse out every time I change media. Every couple of months I clean out tubes and clean the head every month. If you feed correctly with a conservative bioload cleaning is real easy and quick.
