So I bought this candy cane back in July from the local chain pet store, I paid $10 for 2 heads and felt pretty happy , nice green color and one of the heads almost looked like it was starting to merge in the middle and form a 3rd head.
Well that was July and here it is feb and the crazy thing is the same as it was when I bought it.
Now I understand that all coral grows at differant rates and slowly, but my concerns are that I have never seen a feeder tentacle, even after I tried force feeding recently. the stalks seem to be alot longer than any other can I have seen pics of with less flesh.
The 2 head hammer I purchased the same day has split several times , it is nearly 7 heads now and tripled in size, and aside from the fact I cant seem to keep a zoa colony all other colors are looking and doing well.

Water chemistry seems good, 375-400 Calcium, less than 10 ppm nitrates, ph and alk hold steady , 1.023 salinity.

Any ideas? Here is a pic of it[IMG]

Ive tried them in several places in the tank, from the sand to the top of the reef. Currently the are about 6 inchs above the sand bed in a medium flow area.
They are Under 4x 54 watt T5...2 white 2 actinic. Maybe try a cave?

thanks for the complement on the pic

They look ok, im just wondering if there is somethign more I should be doing to encourge growth.....mayeb im just impatient and the results from othe r corals is giving me rushed expectations

I have looked at several differant time. My daylight bulbs go off at 7 and the actinics stay on till 9 , then the lunar leds come on till midnight. I have looked under both actinic and led, as well as checked with a flashlight in the middle of the night. It seems the darker it gets the tighter the heads shrink up..then spread out out like in the pic when the lights are on

i have some that look exactly like yours do and had same problem it takes time after moving them to see results they like to be out under the lights but deeper down in the water and have very little flow over them. It may take a month or two after moving them to even see a result mine only had two heads had them several months with nothing then i moved them and now i have 8 new ones just be patient and they will come around.

Finally last night I saw some feeder tents. The lights went out on my fixture, I was messing wiht the skimmer about 3 hours after the actinics went out, and when I turned the light on to move somethign in the tank thee they were.
I clicked them back off , thawed some food Real quick and feed them.
Tonight when I saw them with the actinics on, and could make out 2 distinct mouths on one head. So they seem to be perking up
Maybe the new skimmer, or most likely its my step up in waterchanges.
Unortunately I wasnt ableto get a good pic

Good husbandry will cause your corals to grow. Also, I've found that my food takes longer to cook when I watch it. Corals are the same way. I've found, with the caulastrea I've kept, It isn't the fastest grower. Be sure and keep up on mg, ca and, alk to provide the necessary elements for calcium carbonate/skeletal production. This is probably most important to this corals health. Besides lighting etc.....
