I have a Whisper power filter. And was wondering if you all thought that I could use it as a fuge to grow some pods. I am guessing that I would just take out the filter media and throw some sand, algae and some pods in there. What do you all think?

Dont forget to get a light for your algae lol. Look into the little dragonfly lights made by Red Sea, they just clip right on I believe.

I think that a fuge would get enough light from my MH blubs.

Why not? Give it a try. It's gonna be small and you gonna have to trim the macro algae regularly, but it will work.

What's your goal here anyway? Copepods or nitrate reduction?

just build it with custom acrylic you can build one for 10 bucks and have it be much better off, i would think that's not much room for nothing really but if you want go ahead and try for it but you may get problems with the propeller and keeping the algae away from it so you wont burn up you motor.

Thanks all for you opinions. I am just looking to house some pods in there. I figured since I already have a few of the whispers I could give it a try.

I set mine up. Thanks for the idea. I am using an Emporer 400. It is about 10" deep with 2 chambers. 1 I placed some calerpa, and the other a UV and heater. The intake tube is in the inside tube of an old Seaclone 100 skimmer. This is skimming the surface of the nano 20. I think it will work well. I plan on getting chaetomorpha or ulva to replace the nummularia if I can find some. Thanks.
