+1 and even if you could at times, its not garuanteed
they are obliged to provide water fit for drinking and not water fit for keeping sensitive creature

you may get unlucky one day, even in a good water area ( times of drought or heavy rains, where additional chemicals are added to compensate for either excess run off or sludge in bottom of reservior coming into play due to low water

As a plant operator and supervisor by profession, even if the water leaves the plant in peak condition that does not prevent degredation in the distribution system. What happens when the water main down the street breaks, or Joe Contractor digs into the main or service next door, or especially when the neighbor has his garden hose stuck in the pool and the main breaks causing a backflow into the system?

Then you have chemical addition to prevent scaling or pipe decay and many of those are phosphate based.

    RO/DI is very cheap insurance!

If you can't find any pure water or if you can't buy an RO unit, then tap water will have to do, but it might bring some problems to your tank.

Nowhere near it, thats just a little over the national average of 250. Phoenix is between 500 and 1500 depending on where you are in the Valley. Mine is never below 600 and is usually over 800.
