I drilled my mantis tank half full of water. I was drilling the back not the bottom though. I don't see how it would be practical or even possible to drill the bottom of a running tank.

I took the tank outside to do this. Then I used a garden hose to supply a steady stream of water over the hole saw to keep it from binding. On the inside of the tank I held a towel against the glass to keep glass shards and tap water from entering the tank.

Thanks for the info and i should have been more clear I ment the back of the tank at the bottom instead of the back top and use the overflow that I would have already silconed in place to ensure to debris would get in my tank

The glass-holes kit comes with a template that you can tape in place and it keeps the saw from walking while you get the groove started.

I'm sure you could but if its breaks you are really screwed.

Yeah. In my case it wasn't a huge deal because it was just a 10 gal mantis tank and I had the mantis in another container already. I just didn't want to upset the sand bed. If it had broken I would have just bought another 10 gal for $10 and a new bag of sand.

Do me a big favor, Don't! and if you do please make a video of it for us and post it please!

I mean depending on what size tank it is the pressure of the water in the tank bends the glass slightly, and cutting into glass that is under pressure like that is a recipe for disaster.

Its a 75 gallon so im thinking there might be a little pressure but I will deff make a video im going to pick up a second tank just in case ( I know why drill it if im getting a second tank just cause I wanna know if it can be done). Another question i have where is the best place to put the lines that return into the tank? Maybe Ill pick up a larger tank that way i can say see i needed it lol

Well update on my plan im actually moving in about 3 months so I will wait to drill it then but I will also be buying a MUCH larger tank. So if i mess this one up no biggie ill just leave the water and take all the livestock out then drill to see if it can be done :)
