    Hi guys,

I was wondering if changing sumps would be bad for my system. I am thinking about a new skimmer and it won't fit in mine currently. I am thinking of making one out of a 20 gallon long. The only thing that I have in mine now is some live rock rubble and some chaeto. I may have some questions about plumbing it properly later if that is okay. Thanks for any input!!!!

    Regards,
    Ivy

Naw....that won't hurt your system at all.

Yea the only thing it stands to hurt is your sanity. I switched out the sump on my 125 for the exact same reason you are. It took me a lot longer than I thought! Of course, when I did it I also changed over from hard PVC to flexible tubing coming from my overflows into the sump, so that added a bit of time.

The only thing I would be careful of is that it might be a rather large water change, you might want to be careful of the temperature and the chemistry of the new water before you hook up the new tank and turn the return pump back on.

I hear you on the sanity. I have all flexible pipe now and want to go to regular PVC. I also have to figure out how to plumb it since I want my refugium on one end with the return in the middle. I have also thought about the water and will save as much as I can, but will have about 20 gallons ready to go just in case. Thanks!!!!!
