I bought a yellow coris wrasse yesterday and after acclimation put it in my tank and it proceeded to bury itself in the sand, didn't see it for the rest of the day. Then this morning before my lights turn on I see it swimming in the corner where my RBTA's and B/W ocellaris reside.... I guess I spooked it looking at it because it ended up retreating into the RBTA after doing so it ended up bolting out kinda swimming in short bursts obviously stressed out, and ended up on the opposite side laying in the sand breathing heavily.... I grabbed my Tupperware container that I use to cover my welsophylia with when spot feeding so my cleaner shrimp doesn't steal it's food and put it over the top of the wrasse and now it's just laying in there breathing heavy....any chance of survival? Anything else I can do... I do not have a hospital tank or QT tank so that's not an option. I thought about putting it in my Refugium but thought netting and transferring might add to the stress.... As always thanks for any input.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I have had fish recover from the sting of Carpet Anemones, not much you can do. It takes a couple hours for them to recover. Let us know how it turns out. Yellow Crosis wrasses are awesome.

Thanks for the info... I'm hoping it pulls through. It's definitely a splash of color I wanted for my tank... I'm just glad I decided to pass on the lineatus wrasse because if I bought it and it got stung I'd be beside myself, but I guess that's the risk I take having anemones in my system.

It probably depends mainly on the size of the fish and how many nematocysts got him. Like Cheryl, I too have had fish survive anemone stings. I've also had a couple that did not. They only lasted about 20 minutes.

As mentioned, not much you can do. Just keep him protected from opportunists and keep a close watch on him.

    Good luck!

When your fish got stung did they just lay on the sand? Mine is still doing the same thing just laying in the sand breathing heavy. I keep looking every few minutes and its in a different spot underneath the container but it still looks like hell. Not swimming around just laying there. I don't have high hopes

Yes, all but one- a clownfish. She darted around the tank, scratching her side on the sand and rocks for nearly an hour. The others just laid on the sand breathing heavily for a couple of hours or so, then slowly started moving around again.

The longer he's breathing, the better his chances of survival. A lethal dose usually kills fairly quickly. I would think the effects should start wearing off soon.

Well left for a little while to get lunch. Left the lights of thinking it might help out came back and it had passed... Anemone ended up getting a meal out of it though.
