Im sorry to hear about your loss. The fish appears to have internal hemorrhaging which can be caused by trying to jump out of the tank and then hitting the hood or glass. It prob tried jumping out and then caused internal bleeding and sank to the bottom which could cause a feeding frenzy with the crab if you have any.

I have no crustations in my tank at all never bought them... only once put prawns in for my stingray a while back, but that way harmless and were eaten. I have never put a crab or hermit in there.. I howerver had a couple hitch hiker crabs which i annihilated.

Hello my friend - been a while :) I had not read that post about the stingray ... hmm, interesting. I would think the ray would have finished the job - but ray's should not be in with fish ..... good call Corailline !

My stingray is long dead lol he wasnt in the tank at the same time as this fish, I dont think he hurt himself from jumping out of the tank and hitting something because theres nothing sharp at the top of my tank, only the lights. The other fish died too same injury just a little further down his body.

On the main issue though i believe its a fire worm in my tank, must have eaten his share before the fish got away and died... Deffinatley not a Mantis Shrimp as it would of held the fish and continued eating it.

I took out all of my rocks because i was changing up my tank, inspecting one of the rocks i found 1 little fire worm, about 3cm long and removed him with a pin which he wrapped himself around with breaking which was good, though he was in the rock on the otherside of the tank from which the 2 murders happened to Lenny and Carl. So im guessing there is more then one.

So here is a fun one.. How do you trap a Fire Worm?

Trust me you are not looking for a fire worm.

Physically impossible for a fire worm to inflict that damage to a fish in a matter of 5 to 10 minutes. If these are healthy fish that would mean the fire worm would have had to catch them while swimming, not likely either.

You may be looking for another type of worm but not a Fire worm IME. They eat dead or dying inhabitants and have tiny tiny little mouths.

Alright, but what would be the best way to catch this worm, or if there is any more. The one i caught had the little white hairs on it like a fire worm but it had a tinge of blue on its body colour
