So I was at my LFS today and saw a reef lobster I HAD to get. He just looked to cool.. But I currently have 2 emerald crabs (one is on the larger side) and I want to know if its ok to put them together or if I should expect a fatality. The lobster is currently living in the fuge, and Ive been having a hell of a time catching these crabs after they killed several small gobies. Ideally I was hoping to move the crabs to my fuge anyways. I should also mention I have a 120 gallon with aprox. 100lbs of live rock

Also is it safe to put any inverts with these emerald crabs? I see a lot of blue hermits or red scarletts upgrading to my snail shells which I'm sure the crabs have been having for dinner. This is over a longer period of time but it still makes me wonder.

    Thanks

IME, no crustacean is safe. Not real sure who killed who during the first few weeks, but after having 2 emerald crabs, 2 sally lightfoot crabs and a reef lobster together for about 6 months, things started disappearing. My cleaner and 3 peppermint shrimp were the first to go. Then the emeralds, and lastly the sally lightfoot crabs with an occasional fish along the way. That's when I stopped trying to trap and tore my tank apart...

The lobster will be the aggressor in the tank and kill the emeralds. I have never had an emerald kill hermits or snails in my tank. The hermits will kill snails for their shells.

I have never owned a lobster personally. have read alot that they tend to develop snacking on things habits. On the flip slide though & have read the same things about emeralds & sally lightfoots, of which I have both in the same tank & never had a problem.
