Camera to take pics of corals?

I know I plan to get the Nikon D 5100 when I can scrape up the cash. The newer version of the Nikon D5000, the 5100 has great image quality at a whopping 16 megapixels (though high MP isn't so important with an SLR; 10-12 will get the job done), it can also shoot 1080p HD video.

 

The Port Hole from Avast marine products is great for taking top-down shots with your SLR, without having to hang it on the side of the tank.

The larger porthole costs $60 and the smaller one is $40 (not as long). I bet you could diy something like this out of acrylic or even maybe PVC.

 

My wife is a photographer and loves the Nikon DSLR products.

 

I'm leaning towards the nikon or the canon rebel,

Are they difficult to use? And what are the essential accessories?

 

I know the Nikon D5000 is really easy to use.

 

You will pretty much know your camera left and right by the end of the week. Its eaiser than it looks at best buy, walmart, or wolf camera!

 

The canon ixus 220 HS is perfect,you will not regret this purchase.
