I have a grown female maroon clown in my 55g that is hosted by a sebae anemone. She was in my tank for about year and a half now. She's about 3.5" .. 4" long and very healthy. She does not show much aggression in my tank, and even lets other fish near the anemone. I also have mimic tang, diamond goby, watchman goby and bangai cardinal.

I am thinking about trying to add a 2nd maroon clown so she has someone to hang out with. From what I read this is very difficult and huge hit and miss with maroon clowns.

Have any of you successfully done so? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

hostED by a sabea anemone.... this said re-aquascaping and adding them together at the same time may maximize your chance of success. also make sure to get a smaller one than your dominant female

I have a gold band maroon that's hosted by my sebae and I added 2 more regular maroons. Make sure what you add is a little smaller.

How about a lot smaller? I see a lot of juvenile maroons for sale, but they are barely 1" long. Will that work with my 4" female? Or do I need to get something bigger?

    Thanks.

I would think it would be fine. My gold band was a bit over 3" when I bought the other two maroons one was a little more than an inch and the other was about 2 inches. Both smaller than my gold band. They all get along and when I introduced them there was a little territory squabbles but it all worked out. Now if I can get my gold band to quit switching from my sebae and and my Duncan coral. Lol.

So I added a small maroon clown. He's just under 1" long, tiny lil guy. I floated the bag for a while, and my big female did not seem to care.

After about an hour I let him out. He slowly explored and eventually got right to the anemone with female. It literally looked like she came out to sniff him and look him over. He did a lil dance and she did not attack him. They spent about 10 minutes. Shed slowly come up to him and nudge him, and he'd do a lil dance.

Now he literally swims an inch away from anemone while she's in it. Now it's lights out time. so far so good!!!!!!! Was funny to look at them court? He is so small comparing to her. We talking 4" fish vs 0.8". Pics tomorrow.

    NIce!

I was recently given a large Maroon clown.

I already have a smaller Oc., and a medium large Black Sebae.

The black clown doesn't let him near my large RBTA!
The Oc. oly sleeps in my smaller GBTA, and doesn't go near it unless he's sleeping.

So great job on your getting along so well!!

Great to hear! I've had no troubles with my maroon clowns. Every fish has a personality and will react different so you never know until you try. I'm glad it's working out for you, maroon clowns are the best IMO.
