Hi Officers- I currently have a 200 gallon deep demension tank (48L x 36D x 27H) and was wondering if you thought I could keep a Naso comfortably in the tank. From what I have read I am seeing min tank size of 180 but I think that has more to do with a 6 ft tank then the 180 gallons... In any event here is what I have in the 200 now. Everyone seems to be doing great!!

    2 - Clown Fish
    1 - Male meleagris wrasse
    1 - Pinkbar goby
    1 - Fox Face
    5 - Blue Green Cromis
    1 - Sailfin Tang
    1 - Hippo Tang
    1 - Blue Throat Trigger

Let me know just don't want to have a virtual arrest warrant!!

The Blond Naso has always been one of my favorites. My Blue throat Trigger is up there two but think it would be cool to have them both. Thanks for chiming in! k+

The tank is too small definitely needs a tank to be 6 feet long and 2 feet wide.

Idk, sorry john but I would disagree. With that length and the added dimension a naso would be fine. They are more of a relaxed tang and not as active as the zebromosas and others

I am going to say no as well. The Blue tang will reach a foot in length and the Sailfin will get even bigger. That is just too much IMO.

This was my initial thought as the overall swimming space is larger. So I loose 2 feet in length but now my fish are swimming in a cube rather then back and forth in a 1 foot wide straight line after live rock is added to the 180. I am by no means on the TTF (Tang Task Force) so I figured I better ask..

I think you could get away with it if you had 6' corner to corner, and didn't have too much rock work, but you only have 5'. I've seen people do a heck of a lot worse, but really for the long term health and happiness of your tank, I think your a bit too small. Just my .02 though.

I have to agree with Vinny. I would not put a tang in a 4 foot tank. While many see it fit, I still wouldn't put a tang in a 180. Even 6 feet isn't far to swim. My philosophy is t not put an active fish in any tank unless the tank makes the fish looks small (at full size). :p I personally think tangs just always look cramped, even if it "can" be done.

Does this mean no tangs for me? Most likely, unless I get rich and build my dream tank.
