What's you salinity, magnesium, and Alk? Knowing the other parameters will help figure out if your testing is correct. Did you try using another test kit. Maybe have your LFS run a test..

Now i never added calcium before, the salt i use is Instant Ocean Reef crystals. Inst it weird that i have a 525ppm reading in my tank when i never added. i have alot of coraline but i really want it to take off so i heard if u add calcium it should do the trick...

I would just do normal water changes and not worry too much about the calcium for fish only. The coraline will get enough calcium from the water changes. But since you have the test kit might as well see where it is every now and then. FWI magnesium needs to be at normal levels also for the coraline to grow.

i would get the salinity tested by your lfs if you are using a hydrometer that could be the problem right there. mine is off by like 0.003 or 0.004 so if your getting a reading of 1.023 infact it may be much higher thus resulting in your higher ca levels. get a refractometer to ensure accurate test results. also dont dose with phyto you have no need for it.

    +1

If your calcium is 525ppm, your salinity would have to be much higher to support that amount of calcium, so that means something isn't right. If your salinity is in fact around 1.023 then your calcium would be lower and it'd be ok.

To sum it up, having 525ppm calcium with 1.023 salinity would cause a major precipitaton event.

The name of this thread would be something like "Help!! It's snowing in my tank!!"
