When i went to buy kalk, it had 2 grades, 1 was 95%pure and 1 was 96%pure AR. the price difference was vast and when i saked them, they just said its purer. well i dont mind buying AR quality but can someone please tell me the difference and is it wort or not? any guys who knows about chemicals in detail?

Not sure what te AR is. If it means lab grade or pharmaceutical grade then it is better.
With the high pH, most metals and impurities will precipitate... However if copper is used as a binder there is a slight chance that over time it will very gradually build up in tank from additions.

AR probably means Arrhenius. Just a guess.

its not food grade... but here is what i got online searching for types of chemical grades:

AR - The standard Mallinckrodt grade of analytical reagents; suitable for laboratory and general use. If the reagent also meets the requirements of the American Chemical Society Committee on Analytical Reagent, it will be denoted as an AR (ACS) reagent. (MBI trademark)

Do you know what industry these are normally marketed to? Like: Food, Pham/med, Industrial, construction?

I have found that 4-5% of impurities can vary depending on what it's made for. Some Slack or Quicklime for construction can have all kinds of metals in it where as Pickling or Cal is fine cause its food grade.

Might as well try for GR or ACS first from pops but if he cant help the AR would probably be ok.

Even the pickling lime can have copper in it. Randy did an article on it. I used to use it and had a copper crash (not saying it was strictly from the kalk though)
Now I only use as pure as I can get my hands on.
