I am having no luck finding bulkheads locally. I will be doing a beananimal on a 40b. I ordered a 1/2" return kit with a glass cutting bit. I didn't realize how small it was. Will I be able to make it work still with 1/2 bulkheads? And where can I buy bulkheads cheap, but reliably?

Are you referring to using the 1/2" for just the return, or for the overflow as well? 1/2" is plenty for your return, however I would go with at least 1" piping on the overflow, depending on your desired flow rate.

Glass-holes.com sells them with free shipping on orders over $25. You could always tack on some extra plumbing supplies to meet the minimum order.

Half inch will not give you but about 50 gallons of flow as a return drain.
the last bulk heads i got from a ebay seller, i have seen many bulkhead kits with drill bits there.

If your return kit is for a 1/2" pipe, then a 1/2" bulkhead is needed. I assume the glass cutting kit came with the correct size bit for a 1/2" bulkhead. Make sure the bit is sized properly for a 1/2" bulkhead.

Here are some places to order bulkheads.

I will be buying some 1" overflow bulkheads for my drain. I just need to k know how much flow I can get from a 1/2" return. And I'd it will work with my 40b

I am wondering the same thing. I am using 1" bulkheads for my drain, will dual 1/2" bulkheads be enough for the return or should I have gone 3/4? I haven't drilled yet so want to make sure I get this right but I have everything to go 1/2 if it will work. I am thinking my pump will do about 300-400gph.

Dual 1/2 inch returns will flow almost the exact same amount as one 3/4 inch return. A 3/4 inch pipe has 2.25 times the internal volume of a 1/2 inch pipe.

how much flow do you get through a 1/2 return? is the 1/2 return kit from glass-holes enough for say about 300gph?

It all depends on the pump. 1/2" will add more head height than 3/4" and will slow down the flow.
