Ok I am wanting to get corals and keep them alive as long as possible! I am taking everything into consideration. tank is fully cycled param's are good. I have a ro-di on the way and a skimmer on. Here is the problem........ Bubbles!!!!! mirco bubbles everywhere. The tank is a 90 gal with the Mega Flow. No bubbles are going into the pump. I replumed the pump onto the outtake. I believe that the bubbles are coming from where the outtake spilts into the 2 outtake sections. [IMG]
Any ideas on how to prevent the bubbles?
Also the set up of my tank.... 2x 250watts mh and 215 t5watts. mh 15k. refugium about 10gal, skimmer 125 corallife. over 100 pounds of live rock. fish in tank now, purple tang, coral beauty, and blue tang, and scooter blenny. have 2 powerheads koralla 3 and p1141>?< just wondering if lighting any situation set up i have now is what i need to keep coral. tank is almost a year old. thanks in advance.

It sounds like your setup is suitable to try a beginner coral or two. Mushrooms, zoanthids (zoa's), palythoas (paly's), leathers, and the euphylias (torch, hammer, frogspawn) are all decent starter corals.

As for the bubbles, if you're certain the bubbles aren't coming from the sump, then try bending the two return outtakes down a bit so they're at least an inch below the water's surface. I've found if they're too high, they tend to cause bubbles to get sucked into the water.

If you try this, be aware that in a power outage, the sump will fill a little bit more than it would than if you had those outtake returns up higher. Do a test by shutting your power and making sure this doesn't contribute too much water to the sump to flood your place in the event of a real power outage. HTH.

I will try that. No worries about the power outage. The sump is large and I have tested it many many times ( on perpose and not hahaha).
As far as corals I forgot to mention that I do have a few corals. I have had frogspawn, zoa's, and glaxia for about 6 months now going strong. I want to try monti or acro.

Try clocking down the return pump. This was something i experienced not too long ago and dialing it down helped with the bubbles.

Hi, I have a tank set up just like you only mine is a 55 gal. Where is your protein skimmer? The only micro bubbles I ever get is when the skimmer fills "down" with micro bubbles. You won't see them in the sump, but, they get into the main display.

the skimmer is where the water flows down from the overflow. In a filter bag, no bubbles are coming from the skimmer. the only bubbles i see that would be near the return pump is the water that over flows from the fuge. But i fixed that problem with a long piece of sponge. so .....................errr

You might want to check your pump on the skimmer. I had the same skimmer and problem as you have. Get a flash light and look around your pump, mine was leaking air bubbles from the pump.

Can you post a pic of the skimmer placement?
