I did a 15% water change around 7:30 PST today as I do every Friday.

Well I had to run some errands and I just got home, my main light have gone off and my moon LED lights are on and this is how it looks now.

Any one have any answer for me on why it's looking so bad? Is it cleaning itself out or maybe dying?

As of 7:30 PST my para are
    Amm 0
    Nitrite 0
    Nitrate 0
    Ph 8.2
    Kh 11
    Calcium 440
    Sal 1.026
    Temp 75-76
40 gal breeder with 30 gal sump
    Lights, 4x T5 HO. 1 10k HO 36inch, 1 true blue actinic 36inch, 1 10k HO 24in, 1 true blue actinic 24in.
    LED 9w blue moon lights.
Heres a pic of my tank as of right now.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure if I should take my BTA back to my lfs or is he just adjusting? Thanks guys

Its just getting used to your tank still prolly..If it looks like its deteriorating then you got a problem..Think about it, your params are ok, you have suffecient lighting, you just need to give them time to adjust to things, your tank is completely different from the tank he came out of..it does look a little stressed, also i wouldnt try and feed it, most of the time when you bring new ones in, they will take a couple days and then release alot of waste and then take a couple days after that will prolly want to eat, this is no guarentee but IME how it happens..Nems will show you most of the time when they are hungry and they will usually get really big(after you have more experience you will recognize it more) and show their mouth, but not like in the picture a different way..ok also if it doesnt attach soon then you got a problem, your nem when 100% healthy will have a sticky sandpapery type feel if you brush your finger across the tentacle if will kinda stick to it, that is good..they also like lower flow, at least low to no flow on the foot, and they like to find a little cave, so expect it to move around alot..i promise that nem will move from the place it is in..

also when you have your actinics on as long as your nem still has a glow to it your safe, also btas walk the most IME..and i bet the bta moves to that little hole right above it in the little cave..also dont ever mess with it, never try and pull the nem off, if you ever have to then there are ways to do it safely..

Hey thanks for ur help. Ya this tanks been running for about 2 months, I bought some LR from a bud of mine who belongs to the same reef club out here, the LR came from his tank which has been up and running alittle over 3 years. I used his LR to give a quick start and finish on my cycle.

I'm not dosing anything either. Just keeping para lvl with RO/DI, Instant Ocean Reef Crystals water changes.

The LR has Cora algae. If need be I could shot ya a pic with the lights on.

    Better yet here ya go.

yeah just give the nem some time..as long as the live rock is cured you should be fine..usually you wanna wait about 6months before putting a nem in, but your fine, its been up for enough time with established rock..just keep an eye on the params if the nem doesnt get better..

its not terrible just stressed out, good water quality and good lights will bring it back no problem..and congrats on the add

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I am not one to have an anemone police approach to keeping anemones, with that said, based on the presence of what appears to be diatoms and or cynaobacter in your tank and the stated age of the tank it is way too young to attempt an anemone. Also I do not think the BTA looks so hot, I would be a little concerned about it's appearance. Keep a good eye on it and watch your parameters for ammonia beginning to creep up.

    Good luck

I tend to agree 100% with this - I do not like telling people what to do (I dont like it when ppl do it to me!!). But when someone asks for advice, it's the only way we know how - to be as honest as possible.

I agree with Corailline on the nem.

But I did make another observation and had question.

I see you have your return plumbing done with PVC to Locline fittings (i use the same and like very much). But I did not see that you had a siphon break in your return plumbing. The concern would be if you ever lost power - unless you have a half-full sump with an enormous overflow capacity - it looks like your return plumbing can siphon nearly a third of the volume of your tank and potentially cause a flood in your sump. Many people keep their return plumbing close to the surface for this very reason.

Just wanted to share my observation with you. If you have already taken this precaution - then you are all set - if not - it's at least something to consider.

Just going to add on to agree with Corailline and M-Ocean Man. But I will also add my 2 cents – a 2 month old tank is simply not stable enough for anemone’s, just my opinion and said with the best of intentions. When an anemone dies it can take your entire system with it. Keep a close eye on things.

I suspect that your water is not as good as you think it is. Otherwise you would not be having that diatom bloom. Keep up the water changes, run fresh filter media and keep a close eye on your system. Good luck !
