    That is exactly what the chinese writing says it is for. It was an afterthought for the manufacturer, and was probably put in there to stop complaints. To run their skimmers properly, they must be in no more than 10" of water, despite what their operation manual says (this information is direct from the main retailer in HK). I use a BM150, which is essentially the same skimmer but with a German Aquabee pump as opposed to a China Atman pump. I originally had lots of overflowing problems until I raised it as much as I could.

    As for the air muffler, you could always cut the air tube shorter, and have it rest on the lower 'red lip' as opposed to hanging from the top of the collection cup. This was the original design, not sure why they wanted to raise it higher.. air is air, I don't think a longer tube makes a difference.

    I believe I previously read that it was metered to use only 28w of electricity during normal operation, although the pump itself is rated for 45.5w

    Thanks for sharing rickz. 8)
    Considering what you have said about height - should I just run the skimmer at 9" to prevent overflowing in your opinion?

    I am confused about the pump... how would you control the wattage during normal operation?

    Thanks again...

    @rickz - also....
    you have me curious about why they would raise the air muffler... perhaps it is solely to do with the level of noise?

    Just order it off Ebay China. Dealers will be far and between as they sell them online (manufacturer) for nearly the same price they offer them to dealers :(

    That's what I did for my pendants. They sell every BM skimmer and product.

    I have been running there BM160L for months. Couldnt be happier. The amount of thick skimate and tiny tiny air bubbles the needle wheel creates is amazing. I would put this skimmer up next to ANY one twice its price and not be worried. Great Great values!!

    I am currently running at 11", output fully open and I'm skimming slightly wet, emptying the cup a bit more often than I'd like (I have no choice, the cup is already touching the top of my stand - thank god for the john guest connection).

    I believe the Aquabee pump is a fair bit stronger than the Atman, so I think you would be fine at 10". But to eliminate any headache, 9" would also be fine, since you could always close up the output a bit to raise the bubble level.

    No clue about the wattage.. just something I thought I read somewhere.

    I think there's minimal noise from the air muffler to begin with. I can barely hear it, my external pump is much much louder. The only thing I can think of, is that they raised it to eliminate any chance of salt creep blocking the air hose/muffler. In the beginning when I had overflowing problems, water would spit out from the muffler every time i turned the skimmer off. Since raising the skimmer to a more acceptable level, the air hose seems clear - never seen water spewing out anymore.

    Definitely. I didn't have the heart to say it at first, but seeing how pleased Matt Rogers was for $156 shipped - I decided to keep my mouth shut. I am privileged to live in a part of the world where I can get things 'pretty cheap', but I'd like to put it into perspective.

    In HK, an NAC6 sells for approximately $100usd retail street price. $56 for shipping seems to be quite steep, especially since it was probably (or should have been) shipped domestically from the USA. I understand that the pumps are changed from 220v to 110v. I also understand the importer deserves to make some money. But I'm pretty sure they are getting the product for cheaper than 'retail price', and are getting large shipments of them from China - which makes the shipping cost very affordable. $56 to ship coast to coast in the US just seems a little out there to me.

    That all being said, I'm sure $156 is still a good buy considering the quality of product you are getting. I doubt there is anything else that has the same price/performance ratio. And hey, if Matt is happy with it, who am I to say anything about it? ;D
