Came home from work today to notice my BTA is 1/2 the size it normally is?!?! Right away I figure something is wrong, check all params and everything cool. SO upon further inspection, I happen to see what looks like the same tentacles coming from below the rock of the now 1/2 size anemone? Looks like I got a splitter!!! Both halves seem fine but the one half is under the rockwork and not getting sufficient lighting - should I wait it out for a little bit to see what happens or try and move the rock to a better position??

    Thanks

I would leave it alone. It is awesome....Some here will say they split to try and preserve themselves or something like that, but my Doctor has a 250 gallon aquarium in hs waiting room and his split and he told me it was because they are happy with their enironment and want to reproduce. He said it is also only done in a healthy environment. Good job on that friend. I would let the other set for a while he will come out on his own. I am sure there is a certain amount of stress involved after a split....Do you have any pictures. Take care and thank's for sharing such a cool story.....

Melev had one split and hide too. the one that hid didn't get enough lighting and died in the tank. Keep an eye on it. Try to manually feed it a tiny bit of silverside soon, it may need some nourishment for it's zooxanthellae before it will move to a new/better spot.

Thanks for the input everyone! I haven't been home since I posted last night so I am curious to see what the status is when I get home from work tonight. I will try to feed each a small piece of silverside and see what happens from there and if possible will get some pictures to post.

    Thanks again!

Of course, you have to wait until each half has formed their mouths for them to eat, hehe.

+ 1 on this. No point in trying to feed for another several days.

Should be fine, can take a couple of days with minimal lighting and still move, I have 3 in my 58g since they split and 1 of them is always moving between the overflow and under the rocks but always comes back out and is healthy

    grats on the free addition
