The hose will push in so far and feel seated, but it will still go another 1/4" if you really push. I had this same problem on the same reactor a few months back when I first hooked it up.

I have the leaks resolved. However, it doesn't seem like the palled are tumbling quite like the YouTube viseo

Give it two days and the canisters top grate will be plugged solid with slime from the pellets :(. You may need a mod for it, I did it and it worked slightly better but I still wasn't impressed.

nothing bad happens if it plugs right? I am about to leave on vacation for 10 days. I have someone on fish duty but they won't know much about the reactor

You do not want them clogging. They will produce Hydrogen Sulfide gas. If I were you I would take them offline until you return. I added my modded BP container today and the flow was great with excellent tumbling action.
I know you saw it Tom but for those who haven't it was cheap and easy.

Just rinse the BP'S in RODI water and allow them to dry. You can then put them back into the original container you got them in or a tupperware container of some sort.
