My Aqualife 115 protein skimmer has been running on my new tank for about 5 days now. My only three fish (picked up yesterday) are a clown, royal gramma, and a scooter blenny.

What is the average break in period on new skimmers? I love the compact size and noise level of the Aqualife but can't stand those microbubbles of course. Because almost the entire skimmer sits underwater in the tank I really cannot put a sponge in front to try to diffuse the bubbles.

I'm having some issues adjusting it as well. Right now it's running "wide open", and not sure if I should fiddle with it. It seems like when I close the valve, more bubbles are produced.

Anyway, am I talking weeks or months before the microbubble problem gets better?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
IME it usually takes a week or even longer to break in. Two weeks in and you should see a difference.

Tweaking the airflow is a good idea, you should be able to dial it in. I would try not running it wide open for a day or two and see if that helps with the micro bubbles.
