    Exactly.

Either build your own, or use the one it came with, but don't be tempted to modify a pre-built stand. They're made the way they are for a reason, and any attempt to modify the stand may actually weaken it.

My 180 AGA came with a stand that looks like flimsy pine that wouldn't hold a 55g tank... but yeah.... it's just fine. Still, it's not tall enough so I am going to build a steel stand.

the way it sounds . my biggest concern would be lateral strength .get the water shifting and who knows what could happen if glued and stapled. how thick are the "legs' or vertical supports? if thick enough you could brace it up. this is something id be concerned about. if you are questioning it , id be looking for ways to allay your concerns. either by bracing , building a new one or buying a new one.

ill have to measure when i get home.
everyone at the store looked at me like i was crazy that i was even questioning its strength. they have sold so many and no one asked i guess.

i dont know what to do now though. ill take some pics of the stand and post em up.

the sump i have is a tad bit larger than the inside of the stand also. i was goin to have it hang out the back of the stand a little bit(with supports of course). but that means i would have to remove the center brace and rebuild a structure around the back opening of the stand. i was thinking 3 peices of wood around the back opening with triangle braces in each corner. i am also gunna try to beef the stand up in each corner.
