so i bought a brand new 90 and stand from a friend who bought it brand new and never set it up. the problem is i was looking at the stand today and i dont think the way it is built it will ever hold the weight.
the stand was bought from a very trusting lfs, but i have never seen one built like this. Its held together by staples!?!!?

i included a very horrible picture i made in paint. Hopefully u guys understand what im trying to show. the yellow represents the staples. i put red squares around everypeice of seperate wood.

a picture of the stand might help.

i dont think i would trust a 10 gallon on staples. let alone a 90

How many staples? The load-bearing wood staples commonly used in furniture, or regular paper staples? Pics definitely help.

ya i know a actual pic would help, but its in the garage and the only time im home is when its dark. annnnd my camera sucks.
its held all the way around the tank like that. top and bottom. the staples are prob 2" apart. they look like furniture staples to me.
and the plastic trim on the tank just sits right on top of the wood trim. i always though they would build it so the tank would kinda sit in the stand. not just on top of it.
    am i making sense??

ive seen stands like that. the lip on the top usually is notched so that 1/2 is directly supported by the wood below. at first look i though it was just supported by staples as well. but your right that they don't look very sturdy only one I've ever seen with a actually full tank on it was a 75g

My tank doesn't sit inside the stand either - because it's a stand for 75-90 gallons. The 75 fits inside, but the 90 sits on the rim of the stand. Does that make sense? I think that's what you are talking about.

ya but im just worried because the tank sits on the wood trim all the way around, then the only thing that is attached to is the side of the stand with staples. it seems to me that once the tank gets filled it will just rip the staples out and come crashing down.
Another thing is that the top wood trim has a notch in it, but nothing is going into the notch.

I dunno! That's what I thought too - but at the store the 75 was sitting inside the stand, but my 90 doesn't! Hmmm...I dunno lol

i was sitting there scratching my head for a hour trying to figure it out.
i thought it was maybe upside down or something but its not. Maybe its built wrong?
