well i gave up on the mandarin idea a while ago, cause i already had 2 scooter dragonets in the tank. well recently i lost my male scooter after 1.5 yrs.(my first fish) not sure what happened but i really dont think he starved. ive heard they only live like 2.5 yrs.

i also had a blue neon goby eaten by a bristleworm. so there is a empty housing in my tank, this brings me back to the mandarin, so my question is how many people have kept them for long term meaning they dint let them starve....? omard i know you have!

what you think my chances are
, with a established refugium(with swarms of visible pods), tank established 1yr+, lots of LR has to be over 100lbs, and my fish include sixline, o. clown pair, scooter dragonet, clown goby(full grown at 1 inch)
    in a 60 gal.

also is there a difference in size, and care between the spotted and red mandarins?

if you can think of another fish for me that i would like just as much please my ears are open. no big or aggrressive fish all my current fish are extremely peaceful.

Well from what I have read, it looks like you meet many of the requirements I have seen people suggest before getting a mandarin(50+ gallons, lots of live rock, stablished tank, and a sh!t ton of pods in your refugium)

I dont see why he would not make it in your aquarium.

***I also know that missionsix66 has had one for over a year now, so he will most likely chime in***

Have you noticed what you six line is eating??? I say this because I believe they will compete for the same food source. I am on my 3rd Mandrin in a 265g aquarium but I have a very large and hungry Six line in the tank also. Try and pay attention in the next week or so and see what he eats.

They are pretty fish but I would hate to see you get one only to have it parish.

my sixline eats alot of what i give it.and in the meantime cruises the rocks for food. i still have plenty of pods and ive had 2 scooter dragonets and the sixline together for 8 months.

I've had one for apx 8 months now with a similar set up and he is doing fine (real fat). I have 2 scooters as well in the same tank and all 3 have plenty of food and big bellies (scooters are pushing 2 years now). I happened to luck out though and both scooters plus the mandarin eat brine and mysys as well as the pods living in my tank but if I were you I would give it a shot!

hmmm.....damn fazool your making it tempting... my male scooter ate anything i would give it, even pellets.. my female(i still have) ive never fed her anything in 6 months. and the sixline i see just cruising the rocks not really actively hunting, not like the scooter who pecks constantly.

i think im gonna do it, i had fun training my scooter ... i bet i can do the same with a mandarin!

plus its the only fish i can see in my tank.. i dont like big and aggressive fish. and i dont think i want to deal with a sand sifter.

The only thing your six-line is doing all day/night is hunting.;)
And good luck with the dragonette. Make sure when you pick one out that it "doesn't have a sunken belly".

What are the effects and causes of a sunken belly?

When a mandarin has a sunken belly, it's to the point of starvation that can't be reversed or saved usually.
