We bought tbe tang just under a month ago. Tbe first few days it hid behind rocks. Jt eventually came out and was a wonderful fish. She swam and ate very well. Eveything was fine and dandy then this morning i wake up and she was floating. I did a water test and everything was normal 8.2 ph am0 n2-0 n3-0 temp sbout 80. Now although we didnt see physical signs of ich ( white spots) she was always scratching on rocks and our cleaner shrimp was always cleaning her. Im kinda lost as to why she died..she was perfectly normal then bam shes dead. Was it the ich that got her or what? Oh and i have a damsel a peppermi.t shrimp a cleaner shrimp and some zoanthinds and daisy corals and they all seem to be doing fine. Im lost to as why my tang died. Any help will be great thanks.

Sorry for you loss. To help, we could use some additional info.

-What size tank and sump (if you have one)?
-How long has it been running for?
-Where did you buy it from (LFS?)?
    -How big was the fish?

Sorry for the loss. These fish can be very difficult to keep healthy and are very active swimmers. I know very few people that have kept them successfully more than a few months. Sadly most ended same fate as yours.

Like mentioned a above some info on your setup will help. Did you notice any of the fish picking at te tang? The damsels come to mind on possibly being the aggressors. What are you feeding? And how often?

    Sorry to hear.
I don't really hear of them dying all that often. They are prone to getting ich but It usually runs its course and unless it gets to the point where it's all over the gills they usually make it through. Was it a baby? Shipped or fish store?
I think sometimes what happens during the shipping cycle stresses them out.. too many tank transfers ect.
I just bought 3 firefish and one didn't make it through the acclimation. So sometimes it's just a mystery as the other two seem perfectly happy. The only thing I can figure is too much stress for some fish. Just for the record my tank is not far past initial cycle.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Try feeding more often and use varied foods. You should probably invest in a food clip for some nori if you get another blue tang. Your tank is 3 months old?

Most likely starvation. If you were feeding the fish every 3 days, that's not enough for tangs. That's one of the problems with housing a tang in a tank that small. You can't feed enough to support the fish because it does a number on water quality.

Unfortunately Blue tangs have dreadful survival rates. You may want to consider choosing hardier species and be sure they are appropriate for your system. Sorry for your loss.
