Black light on reef tank

    Have anyone tried black light on your reef tank? I wonder what it would look like because the corals have phosphorescence I assume.

    some corals like brain look amazing under black lights, however fish can go blind with this kind of lights

    You can do it for a short time and the effects are amazing, but as stated above, your fish will go blind after prolonged periods.

    Personally, I did it for about 5 minutes and that was it. Corals looked sweet.

    Much different actually. Reds glow, Greens will blind you and odd enough.... coroline algae glows under it too.

    You won't recognize your tank under it.

    An easy thing to do is buy a 9-12 LED UV flashlight and spot light various things. Less risk of blinding fish.

    many soft corals will have 2 distinct colors when lit from above vs. the side.
