black dots on fish

    on my two firefish I started to notice black dots on them. Any idea what they are?

    It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    I have never heard of fire fish getting black ich, but it sure is a possibility.

    The other possible cause which I have never heard of fire fish showing is hyper melanization resulting from stings from corals, anemones.......

    if it matters they are purple firefish, they been eating very well and swimming fine. However I did have a midas blenny that I bought, but was skinny. He ate fine but later he died from starvation im guessing even if he ate really good. Im going to guess he had a parasite on him and spread around the tank?

    My other fish seems to be fine though, like my clown, cardinals, and yellow watchman

    I'll 3rd. And yes it stays in the tank for a period of a few weeks. It goes through it sown cycle.

    I will also agree with black ich. If you could post pictures it would help diagnose better or just confirm we are right. If anything try it in future posts :)

    My orange firefish have black dots, but always have Ill see if I can grab a pick when they come back out.

    Ive had them over a year with no issues. Its mainly on the top of their "backs"

    yup sounds like black ich to me also. I had a Tang that had it. That was the one and only fish I have ever personally seen with it. Not so common.
